Having made his screen debut at the age of seven in the 1996 film Intimate Relations, he variously appeared in such television shows as Magic Grandad and Waking the Dead.
Hoult had his breakthrough with the role of Marcus Brewer in the 2002 comedy drama About a Boy, for which he was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer.
Hoult received wider recognition for for his portrayal of Tony Stonem in the E4 teen drama series Skins.
